The Spurger Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to extend the contracts of both the elementary and high school principals by one year following a closed session Feb. 13, 2025.
"Motion made by Cheryl Spangler to Extend Elementary Principal Contract by 1 year," Cheryl Spangler said when making the motion; Derrick Gray seconded and the board approved the extension unanimously. Later, Spangler moved to extend the high school principal's contract by one year; Bradley Heim seconded and that motion also passed unanimously.
Board minutes show the meeting entered closed session at 7:41 p.m. and returned to open session at 9:12 p.m.; the two contract-extension motions were recorded after the board returned to open session. The transcript and posted agenda do not name the principals whose contracts were extended or list the contract effective dates beyond the one-year extension noted in the motions.
Trustees present at the meeting were Carroll Hatton (presiding officer), Bradley Heim, Brent Marcum, Forrest Anderson, Derrick Gray and Cheryl Spangler; Trustee Eudel Tucker was absent. The motions are recorded as passing unanimously in the meeting record.
