Stanfield board adopts 2025–26 school calendar after unanimous vote

The Stanfield SD 61 school board unanimously adopted the 2025–26 academic calendar at its Dec. 11 meeting after a motion by Jan Mills and a second from Karen Johnson.
Superintendent Beth Burton told the board the staff favored Calendar Draft #1, which received 64.7% support in the staff vote. Burton noted she personally preferred Calendar Draft #3 because it would give the week of Thanksgiving off and provide more student contact days; Mr. Blaine Braithwaite also expressed a preference for Draft #3. The board's formal vote adopted Draft #1 as presented.
The calendar adoption followed a staff recommendation and a public administrative report reviewing options. The board did not decide at the meeting on adjusting its regular meeting time; that item was deferred to the January agenda for action.
