Myrtle Creek Elementary Principal Ariel Mainz presented a Continuous Improvement Plan that sets clear numeric targets for literacy and math growth and for improved attendance. For literacy, one goal sets a target to "Reduce the percentage of kindergarten students in high risk from 80% to 20% as measured on the Dibels Assessment, Letter Sounds by June 2025," and additional grade-level targets were presented for first through fifth grade.
Mainz described supports in place for staff, including mentors provided by the ESD and two instructional coaches, and said the additional coaching and mentoring have had a positive impact on staff practice. The plan also includes a target to improve attendance for chronically absent students by a minimum of three school days in the 2024-25 school year.
