Heritage group pitches lower-cost prefab amphitheater for Wabashie Park

John Hunt, representing Attica Heritage Incorporated, presented a scaled-back approach to a long-discussed amphitheater for Wabashie Park, telling the board the group has identified a prefabricated kit that could sharply lower the cost compared with a custom-built structure.
"I'm thinking we're probably gonna be somewhere in the range of 50 to $70,000," Hunt said, adding his current research estimates the entire project — including concrete and installation — could run "probably a $100,000 or maybe a little over time the whole total project's complete." He said he has asked vendors for formal quotes and plans to pursue legacy grants, SIA Foundation support and community crowdfunding if needed.
Hunt described the kit option as a 45-foot structure that would require concrete work and contractor labor for installation; he suggested keeping the existing small pavilion as an entryway while building the amphitheater nearby. He also said Attica Heritage Incorporated would volunteer for construction and maintenance duties where feasible.
The park board did not take a formal vote on the amphitheater proposal. Members asked Hunt to return with exact vendor quotes and cost breakdowns so the board can assess whether to seek grant funding or include the project in future budgets. The board discussed potential grant deadlines and timing: Hunt noted a legacy-grant letter of intent deadline in mid-August and said he was pausing other grant work to secure the vendor quotes first.
