Superintendent Erika Bare told the South Umpqua School District Board on Jan. 8 that "the strategic plan is on track," and that consultant Gayle visited the district Jan. 6 and is scheduled to return Jan. 16 to meet with the steering committee.
Bare summarized staff professional development held Jan. 6, saying elementary licensed staff focused on literacy, middle school teachers worked on effective use of data and a new progress monitoring tool, and high school departments worked on curriculum and standards alignment related to assessment. She also said the licensed evaluation committee held its first meeting on Jan. 6.
On Jan. 7 the district convened its new Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee; Bare said the group includes about 10–11 staff members and will participate in ongoing planning tied to the strategic plan. District leaders told the board that the consultant's next visit and the steering committee meeting will guide next steps for implementation and staff supports.
