The Tarkington Independent School District Board of Trustees on Jan. 27 adopted an order calling a school building bond election that includes a reduced $50 million renovation and additions proposition and a separate $45 million elementary‑school proposition.
Board members initially moved to adopt Option 3 Proposition A at $60 million but then approved an amendment reducing that amount to $50 million. Jackie Flores made the amendment to lower Proposition A from $60 million to $50 million; the motion was seconded by Paige Bostwick and passed unanimously. The board also adopted Option 3 Proposition B for $45 million to fund a new elementary school. A separate motion to include Option 3 Proposition C, a $2.5 million Multi‑Sports Athletic Facility, failed on a 3–4 vote.
Administrators had presented four option sets developed with McKinley Golden Architects and summarized community survey feedback. Dr. Elna Davis, the superintendent, and Communications Coordinator Stephanie Young reviewed the steps to call a bond election and the timeline to place propositions on the May 2025 ballot. Architect David Golden reviewed scope alternatives ranging from comprehensive $90 million packages to smaller, targeted proposals.
Board votes were recorded in open session. The amendment to reduce Proposition A was approved 7–0; the $45 million elementary proposition passed 7–0; the $2.5 million multi‑sports proposition failed with three trustees voting yea and four voting nay.
The adopted propositions (as amended) would appear on the ballot if other legal and procedural requirements are met; the board did not adopt a final spending schedule beyond the proposition language presented at the meeting.
