Sweetwater ISD board creates legislative subcommittee to advocate for district

Board President Mark Garcia and Superintendent Dr. Deidre Parish raised the idea of a board legislative committee and said many districts maintain such committees to coordinate advocacy. Trustee Matt Weaver moved to form the legislative committee and the motion passed unanimously. "Matt made the motion to form the Legislative Committee, seconded by Brenda Valdez, motion passed 7-0," the minutes state.
Trustees Dennis Cumbie, Jeff Allen and Matt Weaver volunteered to serve on the committee. The board noted that Amy Dodson with Raise Your Hand Texas will advocate for students, but no formal partnership agreement or duties for the committee were specified at the meeting.
