Board approves Liberty Elementary boiler replacement; work already underway

The School City of Mishawaka board on Aug. 5 approved the Liberty Elementary boiler replacement after administration reported the project had already begun.
Mrs. DuToit told the board that crews had demolished the old unit, installed new components and performed subcontractor work and that the project was approximately half complete; she asked the board to approve the expenditure and move forward so the work can be finished before colder weather. Board members moved, seconded and approved the recommendation by voice vote.
Board discussion included a request for invoice backup and project documentation; administrators said they could provide more detailed backup and confirmed the payment being considered was the first of two payments for the contractor.
