Planning commission recommends Rocky Mountain Power reliability project to town council

The Planning and Land Use Commission on Aug. 14 recommended the town council approve a Rocky Mountain Power project to reconfigure local distribution lines and improve reliability. Commissioner Jeff Whitney moved the recommendation, Jamie seconded it, and the motion passed on a roll-call vote; commissioners described the plan as a reliability upgrade that would reduce the number of poles at the end of Shafer Lane while inserting the poles the company says are necessary for safety.
The utility representative explained the company’s revised routing and easement approach, saying conversations with neighbors on Shafer/ Shaker Lane produced agreements to grant easements for a revised alignment that avoids three previously proposed new poles. “We are currently getting a cost estimate for those customers that choose to put that line underground,” the Rocky Mountain Power representative said. Commissioners agreed the recommendation should instruct the town council how the commission interprets Town Ordinance 92-1 and should include the revised pole configuration and caveats clarifying which pole removals depend on the undergrounding work and private cost-sharing arrangements.
