Kunkel described the incident as an "all hands on deck" investigation and said Iowa City detectives and crime-scene technicians provided critical assistance through the night and into the following day. He named specific staff he wished to thank: "Sergeant Dan Bozen, Sergeant Eric Neland, officers Melanie Long, Tyler Lacose, and Jordan Shuck, and detectives Jenny Clarehand and Mike Smithey," and offered a special thanks to the police chief for allowing officers to respond.
Kunkel framed the cooperation as an example of strong interagency relationships across Johnson County and said, "Iowa City is lucky to have you." The council acknowledged the remarks and moved on to the next agenda item.
