Hill City school board reelects Jay Zapzalka as chair; Ron Saxton remains vice chair

The Hill City Public School District board held its organizational meeting Jan. 8, 2025, and elected its 2025 officers. Jay Zapzalka was elected chair after a nomination by Joell Miranda; the motion to approve Zapzalka was moved by Sarah Kingsley and seconded by Haley Wentz. The minutes record the vote as "Yea: 5, Nay: 0, Abstain (With Conflict): 1."
The board also re-elected Ron Saxton as vice-chair (motion by Haley Wentz, second by Joell Miranda; vote: Yea: 6, Nay: 0), Joell Miranda as clerk (motion by Jeremy Nelson, second by Sarah Kingsley; vote: Yea: 6, Nay: 0) and Sarah Kingsley as treasurer (motion by Haley Wentz, second by Jeremy Nelson; vote: Yea: 5, Nay: 0, Abstain (With Conflict): 1). The packet included acceptance-of-office and oath forms for several members and instructions to file those forms with the district clerk within 30 days.
Board members present were Sarah Kingsley, Joell Miranda, Jeremy Nelson, Ron Saxton, Haley Wentz and Jay Zapzalka. The meeting record lists attendance as six present.
