The policy also requires the district to provide vaping prevention instruction at least once to students in grades 6–8 and permits the district to use materials such as the Minnesota Department of Health’s school e‑cigarette toolkit. The policy spells out enforcement steps for student violations — first violations trigger parent notification and enrollment in an alternative‑to‑suspension tobacco prevention education program, with escalation for subsequent violations — and notes administrators may involve law enforcement consistent with Minnesota law.
Minutes state the policy changes were recommended by Aitkin County Health. The board adopted the revision by roll call, 5–0 with one member absent.
