Hill City board rescinds one hire, approves several staff actions and postings

The Hill City Public School District board rescinded a prior approval to hire Jonathan Miner as dishwasher/cook helper and .17 FTE paraprofessional and then approved a new hire for the dishwasher/cook-helper position. The rescission motion was made by Jay Zapzalka and seconded by Joell Miranda; the subsequent hiring motion (Susan Kallinen) was made by Joell Miranda and seconded by Haley Wentz. Both motions passed 5–0 with one member absent.
Board members also authorized posting a 1.0 FTE paraprofessional position and approved posting for a long-term school counselor substitute to begin in February for the remainder of the 2024–25 school year. In athletics staffing and pay actions, the board approved increases to game worker payments to $55 per event, $140 per tournament, and $45 per junior-high ref game. The motions were recorded as passed by roll call; no votes opposed.
The actions were handled as part of new business and reflect routine personnel management consistent with bargaining agreements cited in the minutes.
