South Burlington City Center Collaborative asks council for $75,000 in FY27 support

Sofia Babbitt, the new executive director of the South Burlington City Center Collaborative (SB3C), presented accomplishments since her July start and asked the council to consider a FY27 funding request of $75,000 to sustain operations and program growth.
Babbitt said SB3C has hired staff, established an office at 100 Dorset Street, expanded social media and membership, and launched events and partnerships. "We are on target and almost halfway to our accomplished FY26 goal of increasing membership by 500%." She noted the request reflects a $20,000 incremental need beyond the city's current tax capacity of $55,000 and suggested the council could consider one‑time or ARPA funds if desired. Councilors asked about other funding mixes used in Vermont and agreed the city would include the request as a budget option for FY27 deliberations.
