Planning commission reviews CRO draft parks and open-space master plan

Consultants from CRO presented a draft parks and open-space master plan to the South Burlington Planning Commission and asked commissioners for detailed feedback. The team said the plan is intentionally preliminary and structured to offer citywide recommendations, open-space priorities and density-based guidance tailored to high-, medium- and low-density neighborhoods.
"I would like to emphasize the word draft," said the Presenter (speaker 6), underlining that recommendations are subject to change. The presentation included a citywide goal to increase parkland by "about 2 50 more acres by 2050," a target consultants said they derived from comparisons with similar cities and national benchmarks. The CRO team also suggested individual master plans for existing parks, new pocket parks and transit-linked park access, and a rubric to prioritize conservation-grade parcels versus those acceptable for passive recreation.
Commissioners asked for printed maps, parcel-level follow-up and more detail on funding and maintenance implications. The consultants offered to circulate slides and a spreadsheet of site-level recommendations and said the team plans a public meeting in December and expects a final plan by the end of January.
