Council hears reports on school expansion, 96 Herring Drive subdivision and EMS Week

Council confirmed the TBD Elementary School expansion will begin next month with perimeter fencing on or about June 8 and projected completion before fall 2027; planning board approved a three-lot subdivision at 96 Herring Drive and the borough marked EMS Week recognitions and volunteer tributes.
Council members provided committee reports covering emergency services, education and planning.
The fire department reported May statistics: 16 calls month-to-date (75 man hours) and 109 year-to-date calls (885 man hours). Council noted mutual aid assistance during a large Norwood fire and upcoming SCBA training and a scheduled apparatus delivery in May.
The council also confirmed that the TBD Elementary School expansion will begin next month; perimeter construction fencing is expected on or about June 8, with construction to commence after students leave for summer recess and a projected completion ahead of the fall 2027 school year. A planning-board application for 96 Herring Drive was approved to subdivide a lot into three homes; the developer included an arborist presentation and the council said the plan should beautify the area.
Councilors recognized Dottie Gillespie and Lynn McIntosh for more than 50 years of volunteer service with the town’s first-aid corps and noted related bench and park dedications as part of EMS Week celebrations.
