Prattville approves sewer fee changes after committee review

Councilors voted to adopt changes to the city code that revise sewer and sewage-disposal charges. As chair of the wastewater committee noted during discussion, the recommended fees were intended to fund treatment improvements and the ongoing operation of the wastewater treatment system. "We had a rate study conducted for us, and these are the fees that were suggested in looking at some improvements to the efficiency of the treatment of wastewater," the committee chair said. Councilors discussed the long-term need to fund aging treatment facilities and agreed the proposed adjustments were necessary to keep the enterprise fund from drawing on other city accounts.
The ordinance was adopted by voice vote after brief discussion. The council characterized the measure as part of routine rate-setting to maintain system operations and fund planned improvements; staff said details would appear in upcoming budget and finance reports.
