Board approves $0.25 lunch price increase for high-school paid lunches

Regina Robertson Turney, interim director for school nutrition, told the board she had worked with DPI on the district’s paid lunch equity submission and that the USDA average lunch price is $4.16. She said the district’s paid lunch equity calculator result was recorded in the packet as "318" and that the district is requesting a high-school-only lunch price increase from $3.00 to $3.25. "Our calculator for Stokes county fell at 318," she said, and added that the increase would only affect paid high-school lunches; free and reduced students would continue to receive free meals.
Board members asked whether the federal CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) coverage could be expanded to the high school; Robertson Turney said the district will re-evaluate eligibility and groupings next April with DPI. The motion to approve the increase passed on voice vote.
