Staff presented satellite imagery showing proposed red lines for fencing and blue lines for egress ramps at North and South Stokes high schools and told the board the layout was developed with a professional engineer and the Stokes County Fire Marshal. The presenter said the purpose is to increase safety on multi-building campuses and emphasized the need for proper ramping and panic hardware so building occupants can egress in an emergency.
Board members asked whether the ramps will connect to existing sidewalks and about aesthetics; staff said they are evaluating sidewalk connections and budget for that work, and that the plan calls for chain-link fence with privacy slats in school colors. The presenter reminded the board that the project and funding were previously approved and that this presentation was to confirm code compliance and final placement before contractors begin work.
