Chief McAteer told the Borough Council that two SLEO Class II officers completed academy training and will start duty immediately after graduation. "Chief McAteer is proud to report that SLEO Class II Officers Joel Sparks and Jacob Campbell both graduated from the Atlantic County Police Academy with high class standings," the minutes state, and both officers are assigned field training officers and begin day shift duty on Dec. 10, 2024.
The report was delivered during routine council reports and was met with praise for the recruits. The police statistics provided earlier by Councilwoman Milward showed one DUI arrest for November and 1,539 calls for service in the month, with 18,650 calls for service year-to-date, context Council members used when discussing staffing and coverage.
