Tulia ISD approves Guardian Program and appoints Jose Martinez as chief of police

Tulia ISD trustees voted unanimously Aug. 15 to adopt the Guardian Program to support the district police department and to approve Officer Jose Martinez as the district’s Chief of Police. Jason Jack administered the oath when Martinez was sworn in during the meeting.
Officer Jose Martinez had presented the district’s Emergency Operations Plan earlier in the agenda and later described the Guardian Program, saying the program is required for school districts and outlining how it will support campus safety. The motions to adopt the program and appoint Martinez passed without recorded opposition.
The board also approved the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) after Martinez's presentation. Trustees recorded no amendments to the EOP during the open meeting.
