Board approves lead-testing action plan; staff to seek OSPI grant for fixture replacement

Operations staff told trustees the lead-testing action plan has been submitted to the Department of Health and that the district will next get a plumber to evaluate affected fixtures and prepare a grant application to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) for replacement work. "We have presented that to the Department of Health," Terry said, adding that the district will receive a quote and then submit a grant to OSPI to cover fixture replacements.
Terry explained retesting will be selective because retesting carries district costs that OSPI does not reimburse; stations that test below a local threshold (described in the report) will be returned to service for hand-washing or drinking as appropriate, while those above the threshold will remain out of service until upgrades are completed and retesting is done at district expense. The board voted to take action on the plan during the meeting.
