South River swears in two councilmembers and elects DeSantis as council president

At its Jan. 1 reorganization meeting, South River administered oaths to two newly elected councilmembers and elected Matthew DeSantis as Council President. Mayor Peter Guindi led oaths and DeSantis thanked colleagues for their support.
Mayor Peter S. Guindi administered the Oath of Office to Councilmember-elect Joseph Donato and Councilmember-elect Sandra DaSilva at the Borough of South River reorganization meeting on Jan. 1, 2026. Both members offered brief remarks thanking residents and supporters.
Councilman Hank Dziemian nominated Councilman Matthew DeSantis for Council President; Councilman James Gurchensky seconded the nomination and the council approved the selection. Council President DeSantis thanked colleagues following his election. "Happy New Year," DeSantis said in his remarks, expressing appreciation for the support of fellow council members.
