Pitman council reviews draft social-media policy and leans against allowing comments

Borough Solicitor Vigilante presented a draft social-media policy for Mayor and Council review at the Dec. 9 work session. Council members discussed what forms of public engagement should be allowed on official pages, including whether posts should be shareable and whether the borough should permit comments, and raised concerns about what content might be subject to Open Public Records Act (OPRA) requests. "Ultimately, it was preferred to have a draft of the policy that did not allow for comments at all," the transcript states.
Council asked for alternative ways for residents to provide feedback that would limit OPRA exposure while maintaining public outreach. Mayor Razze clarified that the policy would apply to borough committees and commissions that choose to maintain social-media pages. Council indicated the goal of presenting a final policy at the beginning of the year.
