Pitman swears in two councilwomen; Vanessa James elected council president

At its Jan. 4, 2025 reorganization meeting, the Borough of Pitman swore in Councilwomen Debra Guarni and Sarah Musto and unanimously appointed Vanessa James as council president. The council also adopted a temporary 2025 budget and approved a slate of routine appointments.
Mayor Michael L. Razze Jr. called the Borough of Pitman reorganization meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2025, and administered part of the ceremonial program before oath-taking and council organization business began. State and county officials attended, including Senator John J. Burzichelli and Assemblyman David Bailey Jr.
Robert D. Guarni, Esq. administered the oath to Councilwoman-Elect Debra Guarni, who thanked volunteers, mentors and family and said she was “honored” to serve. Mayor Razze then administered the oath to Councilwoman-Elect Sarah Musto; Musto thanked constituents, committee supporters and her family and said she looked forward to serving the community.
Councilman Adam Mazzola nominated Vanessa James for council president; with no other nominations, the council approved Resolution No. 1, 2025 appointing Vanessa James as Council President (motion Mazzola; second Uyehara; roll call unanimous). The reconstituted 2025 governing body completed roll call with all members present.
The meeting was largely ceremonial and organizational: oaths were administered, leadership was set for the year, and appointees present were sworn or asked to sign oaths at Borough Hall if they could not stay. The council adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
