Vicki Loveland told the Monroe Public Schools Board that the I Matter youth summit brought together teen leaders from across the county and was hosted at Monroe County Community College in prior years. She said the summit drew about 13 schools and "over 400 teens" in past runs and included breakout sessions with local prosecutors, school resource officers and wellness activities.
Loveland described student engagement methods used at the summit — colored bracelets for session tracks, a student game-show format, breakout workshops and a wellness center that included dance therapy and a cooking demonstration. She said the coalition hopes to bring the summit model back and suggested Monroe High’s local participation helped with logistics such as reduced bus needs.
