Vicki Loveland, development coordinator for the Monroe County Substance Abuse Coalition, told the Monroe Public Schools Board on June 23 that the coalition’s "ultimate goal is to decrease substance misuse and abuse amongst our youth." She reviewed the coalition’s mission, sector partners and nearly 20 years of local work, including past Drug-Free Communities funding and United Way’s role as fiscal agent.
Loveland described four priority areas—underage drinking, prescription drugs, cannabis and nicotine/tobacco—and said the coalition follows Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) strategies with four strategic plans aligned to those priorities. She asked the board to help distribute outreach materials, yard signs and resource guides in the fall and offered to share her presentation with members.
