District outlines water-filtering and fountain replacement project tied to new state requirements

Staff described a multi-site project to install filtered drinking-water stations and, where necessary, cap or relocate older fountains so the district meets new state rules on filtration, labeling and testing. Staff said grant funds are included in the budget and will offset most project expenditures, but board members asked where general‑fund dollars might be needed for additional labor or fixtures.
Speaker 6 said the work will help comply with the new law and that some old fixtures will be removed or capped; he confirmed custodial nightly or morning flushing routines will continue for other fixtures and that testing and labeled filtered bubblers will remain a requirement. "These are to ensure the drinking water is filtered," a staff member said in describing the project. Staff promised to supply a project page reference for the packet (page 55) and to bring precise addendum costs to the next meeting.
