Council broadens Tree Fund uses to include equipment, markers and outreach

The Borough Council adopted Ordinance 14-2026 on June 10, 2026, amending Chapter 307 Section 307-8 to expand the permissible uses of the Tree Fund. The updated language authorizes the fund to be used "to purchase, plant, and replace trees and maintain trees on public, residential, and commercial properties" and also permits "purchase equipment to maintain trees, to create and install identification markers for trees in public areas, and for educational outreach related to trees and the environment."
Attorney Bayer read the ordinance title and following a public hearing with no public comment the council voted to adopt the amendment. The amendment explicitly delegates implementation authority to the Shade Tree Commission and the Department of Public Works. Councilmembers said the change is intended to make the fund more useful for beautification and environmental education purposes.
