The council closed the public hearing and adopted an ordinance amending the borough's land-use code (chapter 89, article 2, section 89-4) to provide a clearer definition of a "corner lot." The municipal attorney and planning-board referral advised the council the change is consistent with the master plan.
Supporters said the change clarifies a long-standing ambiguity that sometimes required property owners to seek variances. "So instead of having two rear yards you'll now have one rear yard, a side yard and two front yards," an attorney explained during the discussion, noting that the change can increase the buildable area for certain properties. The ordinance was adopted by roll call after council members discussed whether the change made standards more or less restrictive in particular situations.
