Residents urge later meeting times and ask about water hardness during East Orange Water Commission meeting

During the public-comment portion of the Feb. 18 meeting, Thurese Calhoun asked the Board why meetings begin at 5:00 p.m., saying that people who get off work at 5:00 p.m. cannot attend. Calhoun also said she reviewed the commission website and found agendas posted only through September 2025. "Why the Board holds their meetings at 5:00 pm. She stated that people that get off work at 5:00 pm cannot attend the meetings because they start so early," the record shows.
Sarah Jean-Baptiste told the Board she has paid money to make her household water softer and asked whether the hardness will be addressed. Director Matich replied that the hardness is natural to the groundwater and cautioned that adding an additive to soften the water would change the system's chemistry and may be imprudent given system age. The Board heard the comments but took no agenda change at the meeting.
