South River wins multiple NJDOT road grants and $750,000 Green Acres playground award

Borough engineer reported four NJDOT local aid awards totaling more than $2.3 million across several road projects; council also approved a $750,000 Green Acres grant (with a $318,344 local match) for an inclusive playground at Volunteer Memorial Park.
Borough Engineer Justin Cornell told the council the borough has been awarded several NJDOT local aid grants: $681,405 for Leonardine Avenue and related segments; $606,980 for improvements to Darrow, Dailey and John Street sections; $575,000 for Albourne, Franklin and Olchaskey Avenue improvements; and a $506,913 FY2025 award for Prentice, Tice and Cleveland Avenue work. Some projects are in design, one has received contractor punch-list work, and others are proceeding to bid.
Separately, Council approved Resolution 2026‑32 to apply for and accept a Green Acres Program grant of $750,000 for an inclusive playground at Volunteer Memorial Park (project #1223-25-051), acknowledging a required local match of $318,344. The mayor and CFO were authorized to sign grant paperwork and execute any required grant agreements upon award.
