Waelder ISD board approves Flatonia MOU, certifies 2025 tax roll and accepts community donations

Waelder Independent School DistrictBoard President Dora Noyola called the Oct. 27 regular meeting to order and the board quickly moved through campus reports, staff and student recognitions and several formal actions.
Superintendent Dr. Ron Lilie recommended the adoption of an interlocal memorandum of understanding with Flatonia ISD; Donald Kincaid moved to approve the MOU and JoAnn Ibarra seconded. "A motion was made by Donald Kincaid and seconded by JoAnn Ibarra Approving the Adoption of an MOU with Flatonia ISD," the minutes record. The board carried the motion unanimously.
The board also voted to receive and approve the SWA 2025 Tax Roll after Dr. Lilie presented it to trustees. JoAnn Ibarra moved to receive and approve the roll; Troy Sullivan seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Trustees accepted several community donations during the meeting, including school supplies from the Gonzales VFW, pizza for home game days from the local Exxon (Snappys #8), a brisket donation from Coach Huelett for Career Day, reflective vests for the cross-country team from UniFirst, and crocheted animals from Elm Grove Baptist. Each donation was presented by Dr. Lilie and approved by unanimous board votes.
The board cast formal nomination votes for appraisal-district director slots: Waelder ISD used all 142 votes to nominate D'Anna Robinson to the Gonzales County Appraisal District board for the 20262027 term, and cast its 17 Caldwell County votes for Linda Hinkle for the 20262027 term. The minutes show the nominations were approved by motion and recorded on the districtresolution forms included in the packet.
Before the business session, Principals Sharon Talbert and Traci Talley updated trustees on enrollment and campus activities, and Counselor Sarah Lott reviewed graduation-transition planning and upcoming events. Dr. Lilie also reported on a planned evacuation practice at an alternate location and announced a GED program to be offered in the Student Center.
The board approved the consent agenda (financial reports and previous minutes) and adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
