Council flags grant-writing services and other line items among cuts as budget shortfall remains

As the council reviewed the operating budget on April 21, officials listed several line items proposed for reduction to bring the budget within the appropriation cap.
CFO Rich Mondelli and department heads listed records disposal, grant-writing services, tax-collection supplies, tax-assessor maps, legal services, turf maintenance, field/court lighting and field equipment among areas where cuts had been made or were being considered. During public comment, resident Marion O'Neill asked whether a grant writer had been appointed for 2026; Borough Administrator Glenn Domenick said no appointment was anticipated.
The council did not vote to eliminate or approve a grant-writer position at the special meeting; the inclusion of grant-writing services among proposed reductions indicates the administration is prioritizing other items while preparing a revised budget for introduction on April 28, 2026.
