Fire Chief Larry Wefferling and Captain Brian Wlodowski presented a multi-item capital request to the council on April 21, detailing equipment and vehicle needs for the North Caldwell Fire Department.
They asked for a digital vehicle repeater to improve communications, tri-band portable radio replacements, turnout gear, hose replacement, and equipment to outfit a forthcoming engine. The department also requested refurbishment of a bathroom to add hookups for a washer and dryer, epoxy shop flooring, a pickup truck and a new skyboom truck.
Borough Administrator Glenn Domenick said the borough’s operating budget could not cover the approximate $120,000 down payment for the skyboom truck, signaling a budget gap that will need to be addressed as the capital plan is finalized. The council did not authorize purchases at the meeting; the requests will be considered during the capital budget process.
