Council introduces 15-year franchise renewal for New Jersey Natural Gas

On March 4, the council introduced Ordinance 0-26-11 renewing New Jersey Natural Gas Company's franchise in West Long Branch for a 15-year period. The ordinance authorizes NJNG to lay, maintain and operate gas mains and pipes in public streets and requires the company to restore pavements after excavation, to conduct work prudently, and to comply with borough ordinances and state statutes. The ordinance also requires NJNG to file an acceptance within 60 days and states the ordinance will not be effective until approved by the Board of Regulatory Commissioners of the State of New Jersey.
Councilman Bray moved to introduce the ordinance and set the public hearing for March 18 at 6:30 p.m.; Councilman Sniffen seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The ordinance contains standard franchise terms and conditions and places restoration and compliance obligations on NJNG.
