Planning staff said the addition will mirror the existing building exterior and provide connection points to the main campus; the ground floor is dedicated to training exercises and simulation technology, intended to support first responders and clinical staff through interaction with certified physicians and subspecialists. Staff described parking as previously sized to accommodate future expansion and said the existing camera system will be revised and expanded to meet DSIS agreement requirements.
Brian Morton, staff vice president at the hospital, identified himself and said the facility's training program was designed with EMS and local fire chiefs to address regional training needs and improve clinical outcomes: "I'm a staff vice president at the hospital." Commissioners moved and voted to approve the site and operational plans.
Staff said the EMS training facility will operate approximately from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with weekend hours to be determined based on demand. The commission approved the plans by voice vote; final permits will proceed through standard DSIS and permitting steps.
