The board authorized the township secretary to advertise notice of intent to adopt an amendment to the township vehicle-and-traffic code that would restrict left-hand turns onto Montgomery Avenue from Brookway Road and North Bowman Avenue.
Township staff said the traffic safety unit and township engineer reviewed crash data at the two intersections and recommended restricting the turning movement to reduce collisions. "After we looked at this, a temporary recommendation here would be to restrict both of those roadways for left hand turns... simply because there has been crashes there as a result of the turning movement," said Andy, the police superintendent.
Residents who use the intersections spoke in favor. "It is so dangerous with the two side streets coming together," said Adrian Seltzer. Commissioners supported the step as an initial safety measure while noting it is not a final solution; one commissioner asked staff to include maps or images in future materials to help the public locate the intersections. The motion to advertise the ordinance passed unanimously.
