Commissioner Gregory made the motion and the committee voted to recommend the action 10-1.
Township police leadership described the cohort as five male and one female candidate who completed rigorous background investigations. "Of those six, five of those are males and one is a female," said Andy, the police superintendent, who said the hires would bring the department back up to its authorized strength of 136 officers. The Lower Merion Township Fraternal Order of Police president praised the collaborative recruitment effort and thanked commissioners and staff for concessions and coordination that, the speaker said, helped restore staffing levels.
The committee recorded no public opposition during the committee discussion. The recommendation will be forwarded to the full board as a consent item.
