Weslaco ISD presents midyear K–2 MAP results; district flags new MAP norms that lower 'meets' rates

District instructional staff presented midyear MAP (NWEA) data for kindergarten through second grade as part of the Lone Star Governance monitoring calendar. Presenters warned that MAP updated its norms for 2025, raising the score required to be classified as "meets" and making comparisons to prior years not directly apples‑to‑apples.
"This year, you have to be at either a 78 or a 77 to be, designated at the meets," the presenter said when describing math norm changes. The district reported gains in some cohorts (2nd grade growth and strong 3rd‑grade projections) but also notable declines in K–2 math percent‑at‑meets when the new MAP norms are applied.
Staff said they are following up with MAP to clarify norm changes and are continuing implementation of the Bluebonnet curriculum and targeted progress monitoring. Trustees praised reading gains and asked for benchmark 2 and STAR alignment data; staff said benchmark 2 should be available around mid‑March and that they will return with follow‑up analysis.
