"So we're at a minus 277," Rivera said when presenting midyear enrollment projections. He warned that if the coming year starts at that level the district would be overstaffed by roughly 11 teachers and that reductions would be handled through attrition rather than layoffs.
Trustees pressed for more detail. Trustee Mark Delos Santos asked for a campus‑level breakdown showing which positions would be affected, the estimated dollar amount of the reductions, and whether cuts would be permanent or temporary. Trustee Ben Castillo urged staff to explore virtual‑school programs to recapture average daily attendance and to provide an estimate of expected retirements and vacancies so the board can plan.
Rivera and staff agreed to prepare more granular reports—by campus, certification area and estimated payroll impact—and to bring Region 1’s recommendations as they develop the FY2526 budget.
