Board discusses limiting valedictorian eligibility for students enrolled primarily via running start
Summary
Board members debated whether valedictorian and salutatorian honors should require a student to be enrolled at Forks High School (rather than being full‑time running start students) and asked staff to return with comparative data and student/parent input before any handbook change.

Board members discussed potential changes to valedictorian and salutatorian eligibility that would restrict honors to students who are enrolled at Forks High School for a specified portion of their high‑school career.
Diana told the board the handbook language is currently "wide open" and noted some districts require students to be enrolled part time at the home high school to qualify. She asked for direction and offered to bring comparative data from other districts at the next meeting. "Some school districts will say, at minimum, that a student has to be part time enrolled in their high school career in order to qualify for valedictorian or salutatorian and be a part of Forks High School in order to earn that," staff said.
Board members asked staff to survey students and parents through ASB or the district platform and to return with recommendations and examples from peer districts before making a policy change. No vote or policy change occurred at the session.
