Quillayute Valley School District schedules multi‑agency active‑shooter drill for Aug. 27

District leadership reported outcomes from two recent lockdown drills and outlined plans for a large multi-agency active-shooter exercise on Aug. 27, 2026.

Bill Henderson, who led the debrief, said law enforcement from tribal, state, and local partners responded quickly to prior drills and praised first responders for their speed. Staff described work with the local hospital and the sheriff's department to stage a full-scale exercise that will include hospital triage of "at least 10 potentially wounded individuals," airlift, and a structured incident-command system. "We have officially... a plan now for 08/27/2026," staff said.

The district plans to run the drill at the end of a professional-development day so all staff will be involved and will provide community communications in advance. Staff emphasized reunification procedures and asked parents not to come onto campus during an active event because doing so could increase risk and complicate law-enforcement operations. The district also plans to use the E3 emergency app for on-the-ground accountability and to provide law enforcement with live camera access through memoranda of understanding.

Board members asked what information from the debrief can be made public; staff said survey results and response-time information could be shared without breaching confidentiality. No formal vote was required; the announcement was informational and staff requested community cooperation during the exercise.
