West Chicago board honors Leman principal Maggie Lay; hears middle-school literacy pilot update

The West Chicago School District 33 Board of Education honored Leman Middle School Principal Maggie Lay at its Nov. 20 meeting, with Superintendent Kristina Davis reading a statement highlighting Lay’s local roots and leadership. Davis said, “Maggie Lay is a proud life-long resident of West Chicago and a graduate of District 33 schools.” A short staff video was shown and an IPA representative presented Lay with a plaque.
Lay also updated the board on a myPerspectives literacy pilot for grades 6–8 that began as a district-approved pilot in March 2025. According to the presentation, pilot-team survey respondents preferred myPerspectives over the incumbent American Reading Company; the principal said the pilot committee included teachers across subject-area teams and a mix of new and veteran staff. Lay told the board she will bring a final recommendation back in February 2026.
