The Village Board passed ordinance 26‑0‑13 imposing a temporary moratorium on acceptance and processing of applications for zoning approvals and building permits within the North Riverside Corridor study area.
Trustee Bianco explained the pause is intended to ensure future land‑use and investment decisions align with the corridor study CMAP is conducting. "The study will evaluate traffic patterns, infrastructure capacity, land use compatibility, economic development opportunities, and the pedestrian safety along the corridor," the trustee said, and staff recommended an initial one‑year moratorium with an option to extend by six‑month increments. The moratorium covers new principal structures, expansions that increase floor area or intensity of use, rezonings, subdivisions and other development activities within the study area.
Trustees approved the ordinance by roll call. Staff said the moratorium is temporary and meant to protect the village's ability to implement the study's recommendations rather than to block every project indefinitely.
