Residents urge park at 8th and 24th as Village moves to apply for OSLAD grant

During public comment six residents urged the Board to leave the vacant property at 8th Avenue and 24th Street as a green space or to use it as a park and strongly opposed additional housing on the site. Resident Rick Sabatino, who had been on the agenda, presented his emailed comments during the public comment period.
Mayor Mengoni told the Board staff were instructed to pursue an OSLAD (Open Space Land Acquisition and Development) grant for a park at the site. He said the Village will include renderings, project specifications and the Comprehensive Plan to present a shovel-ready application for the 2026 summer round. The minutes note the Village will submit applications during the summer application period for 2026 and that renderings/specs will be included to make the project more competitive for grant funding.
The Board did not take a formal vote on the lot during the meeting; residents’ requests and the Village’s application process were recorded in the minutes.
