Resident raises property-loss, safety and mosquito concerns over sidewalk project on E. Bay Street

During the public-comment portion of the March 13 meeting, resident Dorrena Brown Davis, of 1681 E. Bay Street, spoke on behalf of her mother about a sidewalk installation she said removed portions of property and uprooted hedges. Davis asked whether the family would be compensated for land taken by the project, whether fencing would be provided around a proposed retention pond for child safety, what mosquito-control measures would be in place, and whether a contingency plan exists for potential flooding given limited access to the area.
City Manager Jon C. Williams said the installation is an Orange County project but that city staff oversee the work and would research the encroachment, easement boundaries, water meter relocation and other concerns and would follow up with Davis after obtaining her contact information.
