Board adopts second version of Ashe County cemetery ordinance with right-of-entry provision

During the second reading of Chapter 159, staff explained the packet contained two versions of the ordinance: the planning-board-approved version and a second version that includes a specific section (4.1) about right of entry for compliance and reinspections. "So it is the ability to the right of entry... essentially granting the administration department, planning department, and code enforcement officer, as designated by the board of commissioners to address private property for the sole reason of ensuring and documenting compliance with this ordinance and to reinspect any known violations," Nick said.
Commissioners discussed which version to adopt and staff recommended adopting the second version and directing staff to report back at six and 12 months after adoption with updates. The board approved the motion by voice vote and thanked the cemetery committee for months of volunteer work cataloging local cemeteries.
