Green Team advances wildlife habitat projects, grants and certification goals

Green Team secretary Josephine Noone reported she completed and submitted the final paperwork for a $2,000 Washington Public Library Wildlife Habitat Garden grant and had not yet received a response. Kristy Romanowski wrote a $10,000 PSEG Creative Place Making grant application; Josephine provided a letter of support and Borough Manager Brian Bond prepared a Council resolution that the Borough Council approved.
The minutes also record that the borough has 19 certified wildlife habitats and needs 150 points for community certification under the National Wildlife Federation program. To reach community certification the group plans to recruit more homes and businesses to certify properties, upgrade landscaping in Veterans' Park (including removal of the invasive Japanese Barberry), and distribute informational postcards at upcoming events.
