The Mayor celebrated the completion of the 21st South reconstruction in Sugar House, thanking local business owners and city staff for enduring a multi-year project funded by a voter-approved streets bond. The Mayor said sections of roadway scored as low as "9.5" on the overall condition index and noted that crews removed wooden utility pipes beneath the street as part of the upgrade.
"Sugarhouse is where we build community," the Mayor said, thanking staff and contractors for delivering the project. The Mayor described the work as more than a repave: it included upgraded pedestrian infrastructure, improved transit access and increased underground capacity to support future growth tied to zoning near the S line. The Mayor also singled out contractor Stacy Whitbeck, saying the city "have never worked with a better contractor than Stacy Whitbeck."
